RENEWABLE GENERATION / SYSTEM INTEGRATION
Sustainability
Renewable infrastructure is a long-term engineering commitment, from its first grid connection to eventual renewal.
Explore01 / Sustainability
Consider the whole electricity system
Renewable generation must be considered alongside the electrical characteristics needed by the wider network. This includes both the energy produced and the interaction between generation equipment and grid conditions.

Design for production and operation
Manufacturing, service access, operating conditions and eventual renewal all affect the suitability of a wind-energy design. Considering these stages together provides a more complete view of infrastructure over its lifetime.

Infrastructure evolves
Te Rere Hau also illustrates the later stages of a wind farm's lifecycle. The New Zealand Ministry for the Environment documents a repowering proposal involving removal of the original two-bladed machines. Historical installations should therefore not be presented as an unchanged, current fleet.
